It's been an embarassment of riches over the last few days.
This weekend was the annual gathering of the February Five. The Feb Five are five girlfriends who all shared time while living at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard several years ago. We discovered that we all had birthdays in the first two weeks of February and vowed from that time on to share the celebration. We had consecutive birthday weekends in Maine, and this year, they came to me in Annapolis. However, we were the Feb Five minus one, as our fifth girl had her first baby two weeks ago. We were in frequent communication with her - and sent pictures and text messages back and forth. It was a fun weekend - lots of food, laughter, wine, shopping and stories. This year we gathered from Virginia, Massachusetts and Hawaii to be together. Perhaps next year we'll gather in Hawaii!
Fab gifts came my way - as always Lara can be counted on to do something fun, creative and spot on. We have laughed through our Navy years about women who wear their husbands' ranks. Oh and I know that isn't a character trait limited to military spouses - there are plenty of civilian spouses who wear their husbands' occupations as part of their persona. Perhaps in the military, it's harder to miss when a spouse identifies herself as the rank her husband wears. That's a long way to explain Lara's gift - which I love, love, love:
And note the hula girl/ margarita/crown paper lining the coffee cup. On the other side is a big glittery, sparkly "S". It's so great. She also sent some crown shaped shortbread cookies with sparkly pink sprinkles on it. I'd love to show you a picture of those, but we're already wearing those cookies on our hips. She sent me some artsy supplies that I can't wait to use. Fun, fun, fun.
I got some other fun goodies from Texas - a great Austin sweatshirt and some moolah to buy myself some great Texas music. Preparations for my March trip, I think!
In addition to all of the birthday goodness of the weekend, today I received my Valentine's Day supplies swap that artsy mama organized. It was so fun to receive the goodies that my partner gathered -and put in this great silicone heart-shaped baking pan. Thanks so much, Kathy!!
I have more pictures to include, but I'm having trouble uploading them tonight. I'll try again tomorrow!
