After a week full of exciting events, Commissioning Week has come to a close here at Canoe U. Mid-week, we had a spectacular show by the Blue Angels.
Another beautiful May day brought the Color Parade. Under a bright blue sky, the Colors were passed from the fall semester's color company, to the spring semester's.
Because this is the last parade that Firsties (or graduating mids) will march, they've begun a new tradition (not an especially sanctioned tradition, but a new one, nonetheless) of leaving their shoes on the parade field before they pass in review.
If you look carefully in the picture above, you can see the black shoes lying forlornly on the field - left behind as their mids move on to bigger and better things.
Graduation morning dawned warm, sunny and full of expectation. By 8 am the stands at the stadium were full of excitement, and cell phones abuzz, as families tried to connect, and as mids were sighted.
Unfortunately, I shifted a setting on my camera and have no further shots of the commissioning ceremony, but today's Washington Post had a fabulous shot of a brand new ensign leaping into the air. If I can locate the link to the shot and give credit to the photographer, I will. It's been a great week, but we're glad for a little respite for a day or so.
