The wedding weekend is upon us. This weekend, the first mid that we sponsored when we lived here 8 years ago is getting married! We are so happy for both of them, and the start of their exciting Navy life. The pictures above show some of the preparations for the rehearsal dinner. The blue and gold color scheme represents both USNA and the groom's F-18 squadron. The groom's mother ordered the chocolate fighter jets from here, and they are adorable! They came pre-packaged in the cellophane bags, and we added the striped ribbon for fun. 75 long-stemmed sunflowers arrived today and will form the centerpiece for each table. We'll add some gold wired stars and gold confetti stars for fun, and the chocolate airplanes and maybe a few other surprises. More pictures to come as events progress!

Love always
This was my Valentine to John this year. Although it's hard to tell from the photo, it is 3 dimensional. The red frame is raised from the black and white checked background, and the loteria card in the center is raised even further. The metal brads say "Love Always" and sewn to the mat next to the brads are some of Lara's heart buttons. Across the bottom is written happy valentine's day 2007, and glued to the frame in the bottom left is a small silver hershey kiss that I ordered from artchix studio (I think!) a year or so ago. This is one of the wonderful shadow box frames that I get from Ikea - this one is the medium sized one (probably 9 x 9- ish).

My Funny Valentine
Had we had school today, this is what my daughter wanted to wear to celebrate the day. I particularly love the different socks with the hot pink Chuck Taylors. I also love that every shade of red and pink that she owns made it into her ensemble. Maybe it's a good thing that we're having a snow day . . .
Sweet Breakfast
Carey made sweets for the sweet this morning! She used a metal heart cookie cutter with a clothespin for a handle. They were adorable. There's a giant mess in the kitchen, though - and she seems to have disappeared!

Self-Portrait Quilt - continued
The top of the quilt is finished! Well - almost finished. Looking at the photograph reminds me that I need to add the bottom red sashing -and THEN it will be finished. We are going to have the boys who didn't add background color to their portraits, add some. And we are going to piece the backing fabric with some large blocks of clear bright colors and then will have the kids outline their handprints and put their names in them. We want the back to be interesting too!
Looking Out My Front Door!
Isn't this the most perfect stay-inside-and-quilt-and-make-things-and putter weather? It's been snowing a soft delicate snow all morning. It started right after I took the kids to school this morning, and has continued all day. We were only supposed to get a trace of snow - but I think we've surpassed that already. I have had the opportunity to work on the third grade quilt, and will finish some Valentines after lunch. It's wonderful weather!

Pretty in Pink
After multiple trips to multiple stores to find invitations for an upcoming Bridal Brunch that Carey and I are hosting, I ended up deciding that I could come up with something that I liked better - for far less money than the other available options. Of course, in true fashion, I waited until the very last moment. I finished these last night, and they'll go to the post office this morning. I found the cute ribbon at Michaels, as well as the pink scrapbook paper. It was a Making Memories watercolor 12 x 12 sheet, and then I used plain white cardstock for the background. Then I inked orange around the white sheet, and stamped a couple of daisies in hot pink. The daisy stamp is part of a four flower Hero Arts stamp set that I bought 5 or 6 years ago. It remains a favorite, and has been used for lots of projects of the year.
Must get to the post office!

Heart TAg
Here's a closeup of one of the tags. The word LOVE is spelled out along the garland with a heart tag at the beginning, end and between each letter. (The word LOVE just wasn't quite long enough!) This one is tied with a Lindt chocolate satin ribbon. Hint, hint!
Love Garland
One day last week, I had a few minutes to myself and decided that I needed something for Valentine's, that I needed to play with paper and glitter, and I needed to do it right then!
I came up with this garland made of shipping tags (from the office supply store, chip board letters that I either covered in scrapbook paper from Making Memories, or painted and edged in glitter, and pages from an old, old French 2 textbook. Each tag has a bow or ribbon at the top - some are grosgrain ribbon, some are old pieces of lace, and there's a satin one or two mixed in as well. I used only brown, pink, cream and natural tones on this - and had more fun making it than a person should be allowed to have. I ordered the brown and white striped string from Raffit Ribbon before Christmas, and the tags are attached with the little silver bulldog clips from the office supply store. Fun, quick, cheap, easy!
Oh, and I know the photo is dark - that's a dark room, and despite the snow reflecting the sun outside, there still wasn't as much light as I would have liked. But you get the picture!
