I learned a few things from this endeavor (the sewing endeavor, I mean). First - allowing an eighth inch on either side may have been a bit too much. I would like a little less light on each side of the shade, but I can live with it. Second, I thought that in terms of the construction, that I did not have to insert dowel rods horizontally in casings sewn to the lining. In turns out that I did, because the weight of the drape fabric, the lining, and the fringe pulls the shade even farther away from window frames and distorts the shape. At this point I have only inserted one quarter-inch dowel rod, and it's functioning in a temporary capacity. It's wedged in just above the gathered part of the shade.
In any case, I am happy about the shades and the fact that the fabric works so well in my family room. I was able to make a couple of pillow covers for pillow forms that I already had. In the interest of time, I used a pillowcase/envelope closure which made the whole thing quick and easy.
Next entry - when dinner for twenty turns out to be dinner for thirty. . . . .
Beautiful roman shades!! I love what you did. I have a sewing machine but do not know how to use it very well.
